Important dates & Action Plan

Dates


These are roughly the important dates and events of AFD interest for community building and fundraising purposes during one financial year (September 1 - August 31). These dates are put together at the beginning of each financial year and are updated regularly to reflect the actual schedule as the year progresses. Each important date is accompanied by a suggested action for class agents.

For the year 2021-2022 some of the regular events could not take place due to health and safety restrictions. You can find those in the list below marked with an asterisk (*).

September 1: Beginning of Athens College financial year 
Start thinking of how to mobilize and increase annual class giving.

October 18: Athens College Founders’ Day *
Capitalize on this landmark for College life to communicate with your class, inform your classmates of last year’s class giving results and prompt them to increase this year’s giving. 

October: Class Agents Annual Meeting * 
Make sure to attend and actively participate. Meet and bond with other class agents. Share challenges, questions, concerns, ideas and information.

October: Alumni Day (held bi-annually) *
Provide ideas, inputs and proposals. Attend and encourage classmates to join you. Capitalize on the opportunity to reconnect with the School and with classmates and fellow alumni/ae.

November 13-14, 2021: Athens College Marathon as part of Athens Marathon, the Authentic 
Promote support of alumni/ae College Marathon runners, especially your classmates.

November, BoD-BoT Meeting (held online), Alumni/ae Gathering & President’s Dinner in the US *
If you are based in the US, make sure to attend the events and encourage others to join you, share insights and challenges and capitalize on the opportunity to reconnect with the School and with classmates and fellow alumni/ae.

November 25, 2021: Thanksgiving holiday *
Capitalize on this day of expressing thanks to send a thank you note to those classmates who have already given and remind others of your class giving goal. You can also use the occasion to start a class tradition to meet and have drinks at SAKA or elsewhere.

November 20, 2021: Giving Tuesday, an international day of charitable giving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season (held online)
Make the best of the opportunity to promote the upcoming Annual Fund Holiday Appeal by linking it to the upcoming holiday season, a season to give and make and impact. 

December first weekend: Athens College Christmas Bazaar *
Attend, share and promote the School’s community signature fundraising event.

December 4, 2021: Annual Fund Holiday Appeal (held online via email & social media) See more here
Once out, share, promote, make your gift (lead by example) and solicit (your assigned) classmates. Receive feedback and follow-up on appeal. Appear on the Annual Fund Digital Donor Wall and use it as a tool to motivate participation.

Share appeal reminder/follow-up and the Annual Fund Digital Donor Wall thank those who have given and follow-up with those who have not yet given. 

December: Event honoring Donors, Volunteers and Supporters of previous year *
Share the invite with the classmates who have given in the previous year, make sure they are aware and encourage them to attend. If your class is receiving the AFD cup, let your class know beforehand should classmates wish to attend the event and share the joy and honor. Share the material (presentations, photos) with all classmates once the event is over and encourage them to give (more) next year.

December: SAKA annual Christmas party *
Share invite, prompt participation and classmates gathering/reunion (see checklist), share appeal reminder/follow-up and the Annual Fund Digital Donor Wall and thank those who have given and follow-up with those who have not yet given.

February: SAKA annual Pitta cutting *
Another great occasion to reunite with classmates! No need for you to plan especially. Organize with a core group to attend and invite classmates to come meet on this annual landmark alumni event. See checklist

May: Annual Fund Spring/Summer Appeal (online via email & social media)
Once out, share, promote, make your gift (lead by example) and solicit (your assigned) classmates. Receive feedback and follow-up on appeal. Use the Annual Fund Digital Donor Wall as a tool to motivate participation.

June: BoD-BoT Meeting in Greece TBC
Be aware of this important meeting and be available to be of help. 

June/July: Annual Fund Spring/Summer Appeal Round 2 (online via email & social media) 
Share appeal reminder/follow-up and the Annual Fund Digital Donor Wall, thank those who have given and follow-up with those who have not yet given. 

June/July: Reunions 50 & 25 years TBC
If it is your class, then you will have some work to do! Otherwise, just be aware. See checklist to organize a successful milestone reunion. The milestone reunions commemorating 50 and 25 years from graduation are hosted by the Athens College President and organized in collaboration with the Development Office and the Alumni Fund Drive. The event is following by a Class party at SAKA. The Classes that have their Milestone Reunions this year are:
Reunion 50Y: Class of 1972  
Reunion 25Y: Class of 1997 (97γ-98Δ) 

June/July: Other celebratory or ad hoc reunions TBC
Most commonly reunions are held to celebrate important milestones, such as decades from graduation. This is an important occasion to get together, reminisce and reinvigorate the bonds among classmates and with the School. This year's main celebratory reunions (classes can decide to meet up on additional ad hoc occasions or to celebrate additional anniversaries, in which case please let us know) are: 
Reunion 60Y: Class of 1962
Reunion 40Y: Class of 1982
Reunion 30Y: Class of 1992 (92γ-93Δ)
Reunion 20Y: Class of 2002 
Reunion 10Y: Class of 2012

July: Commencement & after-party at SAKA TBC 
Attend and encourage classmates to join you. Capitalize on the opportunity to reconnect with the School and with classmates and fellow alumni/ae. Prompt them to join the after-party at SAKA to reminisce about your graduation night, bond and relax.

August 31: end of fiscal year
