Βιογραφικό του συγγραφέα

«Ο Nicholas Ostler, Βρετανός μελετητής και συγγραφέας, γεννήθηκε το 1952 στο Tunbridge Wells της Αγγλίας. Σπούδασε Ελληνικά, Λατινικά, Φιλοσοφία και Οικονομικά στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Οξφόρδης. Αργότερα, ολοκλήρωσε τη διδακτορική του διατριβή στη γλωσσολογία και τα Σανσκριτικά στο Ινστιτούτο Τεχνολογίας της Μασαχουσέτης ( MIT) υπό τον Noam Chomsky. Ομιλεί 26 διαφορετικές γλώσσες και είναι πρόεδρος του Foundation for Endangered Languages (Ίδρυμα για τις Απειλούμενες Γλώσσες, www. Ogmios.org), το οποίο υποστηρίζει τις προσπάθειες μικρών κοινοτήτων σε όλο τον κόσμο ώστε να γνωρίσουν και να χρησιμοποιήσουν περισσότερο τις γλώσσες τους. Ζει με τη γυναίκα του, τη συγγραφέα Jane Dunn, στην Αγγλία, στο Roman Bath, στο λόφο όπου για μια γενεά ο Ambrosius Aurelianus αναχαίτισε την προέλαση των Σαξόνων.»
