Elementary School, Junior High School & High School
Chinese is one of the world's oldest languages and the only modern language that still uses a logographic writing system. It is spoken by 1.3 billion people in China and in many Chinese communities in America, Europe, and beyond.
At the HAEF, Chinese language lessons are offered at all levels: from beginner courses to advanced classes that prepare students for the HSK diploma, issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education. In addition, students are introduced to Chinese culture and everyday life in the country.
Junior High School - High School
Junior High School and High School students have the opportunity to prepare for the first three levels of the official Chinese language certification exams: HSK1, HSK2, and HSK3. Classes are held twice a week (4 teaching hours) after regular School hours.
HSK1 is intended for students who have learned 150 commonly used words and basic grammar structures.
HSK2 is designed for students who have learned 300 commonly used words and the grammar needed to use them effectively. At this level, students can discuss everyday topics and express simple ideas and needs.
HSK3 is intended for students who have learned 600 commonly used words and the grammar needed to use them appropriately. At this level, students are able to meet the communication needs of everyday conversations in a Chinese-speaking environment.
At the end of the school year, the Foreign Language Center organizes educational/cultural trips abroad. Students enrolled in the Center will be given priority for these trips.
