PYP teaching is intentional, carefully planned and guided by the teacher. Inquiry does not mean that students are left to discover everything on their own.
Teachers design learning experiences, model thinking, ask questions, provide scaffolding, observe progress and adapt instruction so that students are appropriately supported and challenged.
Our teaching
Is inquiry-based
Teachers create purposeful opportunities for students to ask questions, investigate, explore ideas and construct meaning.
Encourages collaboration
Students learn with and from one another, while teachers work collaboratively to create coherent learning experiences.
Develops conceptual understanding
Students are encouraged to identify patterns, make connections and transfer their learning to new situations.
Supports every learner
Teaching is adapted to students’ different strengths, needs, interests and levels of readiness.
Connects learning to real life
Local and global contexts help students understand why their learning matters.
Is informed by assessment
Teachers use evidence of learning and feedback to identify appropriate next steps.
