Assessment is an integral part of learning in the PYP. It takes place throughout the learning process, not only at the end of a unit. 

Teachers gather evidence in many ways, including conversations, observations, student work, performances, reflections, projects, tasks and assessments. This evidence informs a continuous cycle:

Assessment for learning 

Teachers use assessment to understand where students are in their learning and to plan appropriate next steps. 

Assessment as learning 

Students learn to reflect, self-assess, use feedback and set goals for improvement. 

Assessment of learning 

Students have opportunities to demonstrate what they know, understand and can do. 

Over time, students become more aware of themselves as learners and take greater responsibility for their progress.
