Athens College Founders' Day

Oct 18, 2022

On this day, in 1925, the official inauguration of Athens College took place. October 18 is designated “Athens College Founders' Day”, to commemorate the great founders and benefactors of our School, Emmanuel Benakis, Stephanos and Penelope Delta and many more enlightened Greeks and American philhellenes.

Celebrations for the day began with a liturgy at the Church of the Archangels, attended by members of the School’s Administration and Direction, students and teachers.

Speeches were given by Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation Mr. Alexis Phylactopoulos and Athens College President Professor Costas Synolakis ’75.

Descendant of the Delta family Mr. Alexandros Samaras, who for many years served as Chairman of the Board of Directors, also delivered a message on the importance of the day.

Celebratory events in all school units followed.
