Communication with Greek schools in Egypt on the occasion of World Greek Language Day

Feb 12, 2026

On Monday, February 9, to mark World Greek Language Day, the College held an online meeting with Greek schools in Egypt.

A group of students from Athens College and Psychico College connected with peers from the Ampeteios School of Cairo, in the presence of senior staff from both institutions. The students got to know one other, shared personal stories, discussed language and identity, and exchanged experiences from their school life and daily routines. The Junior High School Choir dedicated a song about Alexandria to the Ampeteios students, who in turn presented a poem they had composed for the occasion. Mr. Vorias, an Ampeteios alumnus and father of one of our teachers, spoke about his own school years and about the shared vision that both schools, the College and Ampeteios, inspire in their students. The meeting took place in a warm atmosphere and concluded with mutual invitations and the hope of meeting in person in the near future.

The meeting was attended by:

  • on behalf of Ampeteios, the Deputy Director of the School, Mr. V. Bakouros.
  • on behalf of the College, the Director of Psychico College Junior High School, Ms. P. Maragou, the Assistant Director of Athens College Junior High School, Ms. L. Zisi, and the Director of the President's Office, Ms. A. Papakostopoulou, also representing the School's Greek Language Committee.

Next, a group of students from both High Schools and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) connected with the Averofio Greek School of Alexandria. Students from Averofio High School responded to our students' questions and discussed their relationship with the Greek language, their reasons for choosing to study at this school, and their ties to Greece and Egypt. They also emphasized the strong bonds students develop with one another from the first year of Junior High School through the third year of High School, and described their daily life in the "Greek quarter" of Alexandria. The senior students from the College and the Averofio School reflected on their choices and future goals. This inspiring meeting concluded with mutual invitations and the shared desire to continue this meaningful exchange.
