22nd Annual TESOL Greece Conference – Athens College Event "Fostering Mindfulness for an Intercultural World"

On Sunday, February 4, 2024, the 22nd Annual Conference "TESOL Greece - Athens College Event" was successfully held at the Benaki Hall of the Psychico campus, with the theme: "Fostering Mindfulness for an Intercultural World".

The opening remarks were delivered by the President of Athens College, Professor Spiros N. Pollalis, the Interschool Head of English, Ms. Betty Priovolou and the President of TESOL Greece, Ms. Maria Halkiadaki.

The keynote speaker of the conference was Mr. Dimitris Primalis (EFL teacher, teacher trainer, Microsoft Innovative Educator Fellow, Elementary and Kindergarten EFL Coordinator at Doukas School) who gave a speech titled: "A Teacher's Path in the Age of AI".

Athens College was represented by the English language teachers:

  • Elena Paraschopoulou on: "Mindfulness in the Classroom: weaving cultures, nurturing minds".
  • Eleni Golemi on: "Your Story, My Story, Our Story Integrated Intercultural Literary Pedagogy (IILP): A Vehicle to Self-Exploration and Understanding of Otherness"
  • Tasoula Asimakopoulou and Anika Devotta (Fulbright Fellow) on: "Poetry: Reflections and Connections for an Intercultural World"

TESOL was represented by the speakers:

  • Efi Kirikaki on: "Embracing the AI Revolution: Navigating Educators' Emotional Journey"
  • Efi Tzouris on: "Embracing the Emotional Revolution: "Through Their Eyes: Cultivating Mindfulness in Students through Refugee Documentaries"
  • Eftihis Kantarakis on: "Social & Emotional Learning towards SDGs in ELT" 

The conference was attended by Athens College English teachers and TESOL Greece member teachers.

This was followed by the cutting of the TESOL Greece pita (provided by Burlington Books) by the President of TESOL Greece Ms. Maria Halkiadaki and a lunch provided by Athens College to all the participants of the Conference, at the premises of the Benaki Hall.
