Athens College Junior High School - 2025 Excursion: Vienna of the Greeks
This year's Excursion took place in Vienna from April 10 to 13, 2025, and was a great success.
We returned with vivid impressions of one of Europe's most aristocratic and majestic capitals, shaped during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. We walked down Greeks' Street and visited the Greek National School of Vienna, where we explored the influential role of the Greek diaspora throughout history. At the Papyrus Museum, we were guided by Papyrology Professor B. Palme and also visited the Austrian National Library and the Ephesos Museum. We admired the works of Gustav Klimt at the Belvedere and toured the royal apartments of Empress Elisabeth (Sisi) in the Hofburg winter palace. Through the immersive experience of Time Travel Vienna, we explored the Habsburg dynasty and key moments in Austrian history in an engaging and interactive way. We were enthralled by a memorable musical performance in the architecturally stunning Karlskirche (Charles Church) and we strolled through the historic center of Vienna, where we admired the unique buildings of the Secession movement. Our guided tour of the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Art History) was a highlight, as was our relaxed visit to the Schönbrunn Zoo. We also enjoyed an exciting trip outside Vienna to the picturesque alpine region of Salzkammergut and the breathtaking Lake Hallstatt, a site of unparalleled natural beauty.
Our educational trip left us inspired, more knowledgeable, and filled with cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
