First Aid Stations
At the Schools of the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation, eight First Aid Stations (“Infirmaries”) operate throughout the entire school day.
Psychico Campus Infirmaries: Benaki Hall, Tsolainou Hall, Indoor Gymnasium, Swimming Center, Kindergarten
Kantza Campus Infirmaries: Bodossakeio, Latseio, Swimming Center
Operation of First Aid Stations
The operation of the First Aid Stations is not mandated by law, but is a service voluntarily provided by Athens College to its students.
All First Aid Stations are staffed with experienced nurses who are present throughout the entire school day. Their responsibilities are limited to providing first aid in emergencies and addressing simple symptoms. First Aid Stations do not offer specialized medical care, diagnoses, or etiological treatment.
- If symptoms do not subside within a reasonable time or a medical assessment is deemed necessary, parents are contacted to collect their child.
- In emergencies requiring immediate hospital care, the student is transported with an escort by public ambulance (ΕΚΑΒ) to a public hospital on duty, and parents are notified immediately. Since the 2022-2023 school year, parents may also opt for free ambulance transportation to a private hospital, provided they have given prior consent.
- Parents of children with chronic or serious health conditions must submit written instructions from the child’s treating physician on how to manage emergencies related to their condition.
- If a student repeatedly visits the Infirmary in an attempt to avoid attending lessons, parents will be notified.
Responsibilities of the nurses
Athens College nurses are stationed at their assigned First Aid Station throughout the school day. They receive a large number of students on a daily basis, and attend to various cases, ranging from minor to severe, covering a wide spectrum of pathology and traumatology. Their duties include:

- Referring individuals in need of medical care for further treatment.
- Escorting the students to the hospital by ambulance in case of emergencies.
- Notifying parents and the student’s or adult’s treating physician, if necessary.
- Participating in monitoring the health of students with chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, epilepsy, etc.).
- Delivering first aid during athletic and swimming competitions, as well as other events on Athens College premises.
- Accompanying students and staff on school trips and expeditions.
- Collaborating with the Psychoeducational Department to identify and support students with such issues.
- Maintaining strict medical confidentiality at all times.
