Psychico College Elementary School: Honoring October 28

Psychico College Elementary School: Honoring October 28

Oct 29, 2026

Through a series of celebrations, Psychico College Elementary School students honored the memory of October 28, 1940, sending messages of freedom, unity, and peace.

In an atmosphere of emotion and pride, the celebrations began on Thursday, October 22, with the Flag Handover ceremony, where the flag was passed to the top-performing students.

On Friday, October 23, the traditional parade of students from Athens College and Psychico College Elementary Schools took place at the “Alexandros Athanasiadis” Stadium, honoring the struggles and sacrifices of the Greek people for freedom. A particularly memorable moment was the commemorative speech by Mr. Papasarantos, a teacher at Psychico College Elementary School, who moved students and teachers alike with his tribute to the meaning of the day.

Our youngest students also held a special place in the celebrations with their own events.

Grade 1 students marked the historic “OXI” with a special event in the school theater.

Grade 2 students held their own celebration at the large chessboard in the school woods, where every class honored the courageous “OXI” of 1940 with poems and songs. Class 2e added a special touch by performing songs with original lyrics written for the occasion.

Grade 3 students also took the stage. The students of 3a presented the play “Not Anymore”, which explored the events of 1940 through historical accounts, literature, poetry, and music. Class 3g performed songs, and the Stage Lab Club designed the set. The celebration was prepared under the guidance of teachers Ms. Kriara, Ms. Kostakou, and Ms. Spitadaki.

Through these events, the children learned about key moments in our history, expressed themselves creatively, and honored the values of freedom, bravery, and solidarity in their own way.
