Athens College and Psychico College Elementaries: European Day of Languages

Oct 1, 2026

On Monday, 28 September, Grade 5 students at Athens College Elementary and Grades 5 and 6 students at Psychico College Elementary celebrated the European Day of Languages with a series of creative, experiential activities focused on language, communication, and culture.

At Athens College Elementary School, students explored Europe’s linguistic and cultural diversity, discovered other cultures, and learned how languages connect and interact through talks, games, a treasure hunt, and group activities. They took part in activities that helped them learn more about the languages they are studying and the cultures in which they are spoken. Dishes, important figures, monuments, words, and phrases from different European countries took center stage.

At Psychico College Elementary School, the activities began in class with a discussion and screening of videos from the Council of Europe. Students then participated in a treasure hunt and tested their knowledge in a wheel-of-fortune-style game, answering questions in English, French, German, and Spanish. During English class, Grade 5 students completed tables of loanwords, identifying English words used in Greek as well as English words of Greek origin.

At breaktime, the celebrations continued at Latseio Radio. Students from the French, German, and Spanish classes took the microphone, spoke about the languages they are learning, and shared songs in all three languages with their classmates.

The day celebrated languages, communication, and culture, giving students the opportunity to explore Europe’s rich linguistic and cultural diversity through teamwork and play.
