Athens College and Psychico College Elementaries: European Week of Sport in Foreign Language Classes
As part of the European Week of Sport, students at Athens College and Psychico College Elementary Schools took part in experiential activities that combined language, culture, movement, and play in their French and Spanish classes.
In their French classes, Psychico College Elementary Grade 6 students and Athens College Grade 5 students engaged in a fun pétanque tournament, a popular French sport deeply rooted in French culture. Through the game, students collaborated while building focus, accuracy, strategic thinking, teamwork, and fair play.
Meanwhile, Elementary School Grade 4 students from both schools took their Spanish classes outside the classroom to play “Carrera de huevos,” a fun game in which participants balance eggs on spoons. The activity brought movement, collaboration, and enthusiasm to the lesson, allowing students to experience the language through play.
Both activities gave students a chance to connect foreign-language learning with original, hands-on experiences while highlighting the joy of exercise, cooperation, and discovering other cultures.
