Athens College Elementary School – Grade 4 Open Day: Exploring Greece
With unwavering enthusiasm, pride, and a spirit of discovery, the Elementary School Grade 4 Open Day took place on Tuesday, June 2, 2026—a special celebration dedicated to Greek geography, traditions, and culture.
This year, our students took on the role of tour guides and led us on a journey across Greece, offering guests a unique learning and creative experience.
The event marked the culmination of the students’ research as part of the PYP transdisciplinary theme “Where We Are in Place and Time.” While working on this theme, the students explored the geographical diversity of our country and came to understand how place and the natural environment influence and shape history, customs, and individual identities.
The presentation of their work unfolded in three stages, offering attendees a comprehensive experiential journey:
Exploring Our Land
The students presented the geographical regions of Greece, highlighting the distinctive characteristics, natural beauty, and significance of each area in their projects.
Dancing Tradition
Theory became practice, and tradition came to life! Each class enthusiastically presented traditional dances from the geographic region they had studied, filling the space with music and rhythms from all over Greece.
A Culinary Journey
The celebration concluded in the most delicious way, as children, parents, and teachers sampled traditional dishes and local flavors. This culinary journey highlighted the richness of Greek cuisine and its connection to our cultural heritage.
During the Open Day, we celebrated the creative ways children explore, collaborate, and connect geography with our vibrant cultural identity.
