Athens College Elementary School – English Department: Participation in the European eTwinning project "Forest Guardians"

Jun 8, 2026

Students from the Environmental and Gardening Club, as well as two Grade 5 English classes, participated with great enthusiasm in the European eTwinning project “Forest Guardians.”

As part of the project, the Club’s students collaborated with European School Munich, while the Grade 5 classes partnered with Granbyskolan School in Uppsala, Sweden. WWF Greece was a valuable partner in implementing the project, providing the educational materials for the activities.

Through joint initiatives and the exchange of ideas, the children learned about natural forest regeneration processes and became aware of the need to protect the natural environment. Using an observation grid, they studied areas of the school grounds to identify signs of natural vegetation regeneration. At the same time, they exchanged views and findings with students from partner schools, discussed forest fire prevention and protection, and created photo captions related to the regeneration of forest ecosystems.

The initiative culminated in online meetings held on Wednesday, June 3, and Monday, June 8, giving the children the opportunity to present their work, play a “Forest Taboo" game, share experiences, and strengthen the bonds of cooperation and friendship they developed throughout the project.

Participation in the eTwinning “Forest Guardians” project was a valuable learning experience in collaboration and environmental awareness, reinforcing the children’s active involvement in protecting forests and the natural environment.
