Athens College Elementary School Grade 4 - Educational field trip to Marathon

May 21, 2026

On Monday, May 11, 2026, Grade 4 students embarked on a special educational field trip to Marathon, visiting the Tumulus and the Archaeological Museum.

As part of the PYP program and the unit “Where We Are in Place and Time,” the children left the classrooms for a while to experience history firsthand, at the very site where significant events of the Greco-Persian Wars took place.

The purpose of the field trip was to combine the joy of an excursion with experiential learning. Instead of a simple guided tour, our students became young researchers, observing, asking questions, and connecting their knowledge with what they saw and heard.

At the same time, their tour around the imposing Tumulus gave them the opportunity to reflect on the importance of preserving historical memory and to discuss how monuments and our cultural heritage should be respected.
