Mr. Koumoutsakos’s visit took place as part of an event featuring a performance prepared by the UNESCO Club of Athens College Elementary School for this year’s 22nd Meeting of the College’s UNESCO Clubs. The performance, titled “The Oceans and Us: A Relationship for Life,” addressed marine geohazards and their impact on the natural and social environment, exploring critical aspects that connect humans with the marine ecosystem.
The students’ presentation focused on Ocean Literacy, highlighting the importance of understanding and protecting the oceans through current scientific data and educational approaches. The children presented the basic principles of Ocean Literacy in a particularly vivid way, with the aim of informing and raising awareness about the marine environment.
The event was honored by the presence of the Athens College President, Mr. Spiros N. Pollalis, who emphasized the importance of educational initiatives and student participation in projects that promote knowledge and international dialogue.
