Athens College Elementary School – February in our Library

Feb 27, 2026

February filled our School Library and Theater with stories, voices, and images. Each class had the opportunity to follow its own path into the world of books through activities that encouraged children to engage with literature, creativity, and collaboration.

First-grade students traveled into the world of David Litchfield through the performance "My Neighbor the Dinosaur," presented by the theater group "Anemomyloi" and Christos Christopoulos. Through theatrical games, the children explored themes of friendship and acceptance.

Grade 2 attended a program inspired by the book "The Baker by the Sea," led by theater educator Myrto Panagou. They also learned about "the life of a book" through a presentation by the head of the library, Niki Bistiola, who introduced them to the journey of a book, from its initial idea to publication. In addition, section 2c met author Giota Kolovou and discovered her book "Amygdalena and the Dragon Fou-Fou," a tender story celebrating the power of courage.

Grade 3 students met with Anna Maria Vlassi, who oversees the design and implementation of educational programs, to discuss "What Happens Next" by Susan Hughes, a book that addresses school bullying and empathy with sensitivity.

Students in sections 4a and 4d were introduced to the series "Trackers of History" through a lively presentation by author Eugenia Manolidou, who guided them through the world of ancient language and our cultural heritage. At the same time, sections 4f and 5c had the pleasure of meeting the author, Stamatis Skampardonis, and the illustrator, Elisa Vavouri, who presented the book "On the Wings of Kokkinomytis," sparking thoughtful discussions on nature conservation and environmental awareness.

Grade 5 met Italian author Pierdomenico Baccalario and explored the "L'Investigato" series through an engaging, interactive discussion on imagination, storytelling, and the power of writing.

Authors Vicky Zogopoulou and Kleio Anagnostou visited sections 1a and 1e to present "Stories Hidden in School!," inviting young students into the world of imagination through creative storytelling and interactive activities.

Finally, the students of section 6c "traveled" to Thessaloniki through Melina Iliopoulou's book "An Imaginary Stroll in Thessaloniki," discovering the city's monuments, stories, and images through literature.

February at our Library was a month filled with words, ideas, and creative light—a month in which every class enjoyed its own special encounter with books, continuing our shared journey of learning, joy, and inspiration.
