Athens College Elementary School - Informatics Department: Digital Safety Week with Google as our guide

Feb 27, 2026

In honor of Safer Internet Day on February 10, our students had the opportunity to revisit and strengthen their understanding of safe and responsible internet use. From February 9 to 20, two special activity zones were created in the Informatics classrooms, where children engaged in creative, interactive, and playful activities both during lessons and during breaks.

In the first zone, students enjoyed a lively and entertaining Game Show featuring questions designed by Grade 6 students. Adapted to each age group, the questions covered topics such as internet addiction, appropriate websites and misinformation, copyright, cyberbullying, chatting with strangers, and personal data protection. The thoughtful differentiation ensured that all children could participate meaningfully at a level suited to their knowledge and experience.

In the second zone, students entered a themed Escape Room, where they helped the hero Nikos "escape" the internet's traps. Each day corresponded to a different station inspired by Google's "Be Internet Awesome" program, focusing on one essential digital skill at a time. At the "Smart" station, they explored the principles of responsible content sharing. At the "Alert" station, they tackled misinformation and practiced identifying what is true and what is false online. At the "Strong" station, they learned strategies for protecting passwords and personal data. At the "Kind" station, they discussed difficult online experiences and the importance of seeking help. Finally, at the "Brave" station, they reflected on everything they had learned and were officially declared "Internet Heroes," highlighting that kindness has a meaningful place in the digital world.

Through games, digital challenges, and plenty of excitement, our students demonstrated that they can navigate the internet safely, wisely, and responsibly. Digital Safety Week concluded with enthusiasm and marked another important step on the journey toward digital literacy.
