Young meteorologists at Athens College Elementary School

Nov 15, 2023

In the context of the Geography course of Geography in Grade 5 and specifically the "The Earth as a celestial body" unit, during school year 2023-2024, students of Grade 6β, will use a weather station from which they will be able to collect many data of a season, with instruments such as the rain gauge, the wind gauge, the thermometer, the hygrometer, and the barometer. From November to June, i.e. during all seasons, students will be able to collect and compare the specific characteristics of each season.

With the rain gauge they will be able to measure the amount of rain, with the wind gauge they will be able to see the direction of the wind, with the thermometer they will be able to locate the ambient temperature, with the hygrometer they will be able to record the humidity of the atmosphere and with the barometer they will be able to measure the atmospheric pressure.

Three weather stations in the School's surroundings will be used to assess the quality of the measurements. Two of them were placed outdoors in the Forest and one in the classroom balcony.
