Psychico College Elementary School 1st and 2nd Graders Become “Young Gardeners” for an Hour

Jun 7, 2021

As part of the Environmental Education program, “Farm 2 School 2020-21,” that was carried out at Psychico College Elementary School, our School’s 1st and 2nd grade students became “young gardeners” in our School’s garden.

Planting a summer vegetable garden, flowers and strawberries gave the “young gardeners” an opportunity to learn about crop rotation and mixed fermentation (also known as co-cultivation). At the same time, they became acquainted with aromatic plants and herbs using all their senses.

The students performed garden chores, engaging in various creative and fun activities.  They were excited to loosen and dig the soil for planting, to take care of their plants and watch them grow.

The aim of the program was to acquaint children with gardening and to help them develop new skills, as well as to understand the growth cycle of plants. More importantly, by coming into contact with nature, they cultivated a love for it.
