International Mathematics Competition “Kangaroo”

TO:  The parents of students

Dear Parents,

Please be advised that the International Mathematics Competition “Kangaroo,” will take place on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.  It is open to students from elementary school grade 2 through high school grade 12.  You will be notified in due course as to whether the competition will be conducted in-person or online.

The philosophy of “Kangaroo” is entirely different from that of known competitions that require specific mathematical knowledge or that (only) seek out mathematically talented students.  Common sense, clear thinking and a love for mathematics suffice for anyone to tackle the questions/topics covered in the competition.  The questions, for the most part, are fun and intriguing to students.  There is an entry fee of 12,50 Euros to participate in the Competition and students will receive commemorative gifts from the Organizers of the event.

This year’s test center for the HAEF Schools is Athens College Junior High School.

Parents interested in having their children compete should complete the Participation Form (see the 2nd page of the attached letter in Greek) and submit it, together with the entry fee of €12,50 to Ms. Elina Paravalou (Upper Section Deputy Director’s Office, tel. 210-6659998 email [email protected] by April 20, 2021.

Please note:

· In the event of siblings, you need to complete a different Participation Form for each child and to provide a different email address for each (it is the email address with which each child will enter the completion in the event that the Competition is conducted online).
· no applications to enter the competition will be accepted after the deadline.

Sincerely,

Loukas Zachos
Director
