Athens College Elementary School Receives Green Flag Award

The Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (EEPF), as the national operator of the "Ecological Schools" International Network of Environmental Education , and the Secondary Education Directorate of Athens, co-organized and held the award ceremony for the schools of the Network, at the Benaki Museum Amphitheater (138 Piraeus st.), on Saturday, March 30, 2024. During the event, 114 schools from all over Greece were awarded for their successful activities in the Network, including the Athens College Elementary School.

Opening remarks were given by the Mayor of Athens, Mr. Haris Doukas, who announced that the Municipality of Athens, with its own contribution, becomes the first Municipality in Greece to join the UNESCO Global Partnership for Green Education.

This year's award is an important milestone as it coincides with the completion of 30 years of successful operation of the Network and the launch of the Green Education Partnership in Greece.

In this great educational celebration, the children presented their activities through performances and videos. More than 800 pupils with their parents and teachers, as well as education officials, representatives of Environmental Organizations, Non-Profit and Social Organizations, attended the presentation of the Green Flags of the Eco-Schools to the schools that have successfully participated in the Network for more than two years. This year, Mr. Amvrosios Chatziapostolou was also awarded for his actions in the Environment and Gardening Club for the years 2021-2023 as well as all the teachers of the English Department of Athens College Elementary for their contribution to the promotion of the drilling action in Ghana.
