On Monday, May 18, 2026, the event “Women in Shipping” was held at the College Theater on the occasion of the International Day of Women in Maritime. The event was organized by members of our School’s Shipping Group, which includes Junior High School and High School students from Athens College and Psychico College.

At this event, Junior High School Grades 2 and 3 students engaged in a discussion with three School alumnae who are actively involved in the shipping industry: Aikaterini Iliakopoulou ’95, General Counsel of Minerva Marine Inc.; Ismini Panagiotidi ’00, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Pavimar S.A. and Icon Energy Corp.; and Alexandra Tsavliris ’98, Principal of Tsavliris Group. The fourth speaker, Ms. Alexia Inglessis ’07, was unable to attend due to unforeseen commitments. An excerpt from an interview given to the Shipping Group by Ms. Ioanna Procopiou ’96, CEO of Prominence Maritime and President Designate of BIMCO, was also screened.

Introductory remarks at the event were made by the student members of the College’s Shipping Group. As they emphasized, Greece holds a leading position in women’s employment in the shipping sector, with 7.8% of the country’s registered seafarers being women—a figure seven times the global average. At the same time, 35% of positions on the boards of directors and in leadership at Greek shipping companies are held by women, the highest percentage worldwide.
