The College at the "Student Marathon-Il Greco fa testo" event in Naples
On Monday, February 9, 2026, two groups of students from Athens College Junior High School and Psychico College High School participated in the event titled "Student Marathon-Il Greco fa testo" (Greek is a legacy), held at the historic Basilica of San Giovanni Maggiore Pignatelli in Naples. The event is organized annually by the SINTONIA coordination network to celebrate World Greek Language Day, in collaboration with the Greek community and the teachers of the Classical High Schools of Naples and Campania. It is held under the auspices and support of the Municipality of Naples, the Greek Embassy in Rome, the Consulate of Cyprus in Naples, the Italian Institute for Philosophical Studies, and the Italian Philhellenic Society. This year's event brought together students from schools in Campania and other Italian regions, as well as 39 Greek schools from across Greece and the world.
Athens College Junior High School took part for the fourth consecutive year. A group of 25 students presented the project "My homeland is my language," which included recitations of Greek literary texts spanning from Homer to the present day. The delegation was accompanied by the Director of Athens College Junior High School, Ms. V. Tla, along with Greek language teachers P. Kostala and E. Geronikolou.
Psychico College High School participated for the first time with a team of ten Grade 1 students, who presented the project "Language: Greek", based on an original poem they had composed especially for the occasion. The team was prepared and accompanied by Greek language teachers S. Delidaki and E. Skaventzou.
The educational trip of the two delegations was enriched by visits to cultural and archaeological sites in Naples—including the San Carlo Theater, the Archaeological Museum, and the San Severo Museum—as well as in Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi (featuring a visit to the Paper Museum), Ravello, and the archaeological sites of Posidonia, Ercolano, and Pompeii.
