Tribute to Philhellenism. Athens College Junior High School Student Event

Apr 19, 2021

As part of the celebrations marking the 200-year anniversary since the start of the Greek Revolution, Athens College Junior High School 9th grade students watched an online tribute to the Philhellenic movement on Thursday, April 15, 2021. The tribute was prepared by eighteen of their classmates, under the guidance of the School’s Philologists, Mmes. L. Zisi, A.Stathoulia, and Aim.Strimeli, with significant support from Ms. A. Papazoglou, Head of the College Libraries.

In the first part, they viewed a video of our senior class students’ projects on a variety of historical occurrences of philhellenism. Our students then had an opportunity to follow a speech by Mr. G. Gkekos, author of the Academy of Athens award-winning book, “The Return,” which is about the odyssey of the survivors of Al. Ypsilantis and the contribution of the Swiss Philhellenic movement.

The happening was but a small tribute on behalf of our students to the foremost national event celebrated this year.
