President of Amherst College spoke to Junior High School students

On Monday, January 16, 2023, President of Amherst College Michael A. Elliott visited our School, accompanied by Chief Advancement Officer of the College Ms. Betsy Cannon Smith. Michael A. Elliott spoke to Athens College and Psychico College Grade 9 students at the College Theater on Liberal Arts relevance in today’s world as well how as how Artificial Intelligence will affect professions in the future. His speech was titled “The Liberal Arts and Our Shared Future”.

Michael A. Elliott was prefaced by Athens College President Professor Costas Synolakis ’75. 

Following the speech, Michael A. Elliott and Betsy Cannon Smith were given a tour of the Athens College premises by Mr. Synolakis.

About Michael A. Elliott

He studied English and comparative literature at Amherst College (BA) and Columbia University (MA, PhD). For 24 years he was a faculty member and administrator at Emory University in Atlanta. From 2016 to 2022 he served as interim dean and dean of the Emory College of Arts and Sciences.

In 2022 he was appointed 20th President of Amherst College.
