Athens College Elementary School - English Department: First visit of Swedish and Slovenian teachers as part of the ERASMUS+ KA210 Program
It was a great joy and honor for our school to host 14 teachers from Sweden and Slovenia from June 15 to 17, as part of the EU program “Greening our Curriculum, Greening our Schools” (2024–2–SE01–KA210–SCH–000280611). The purpose of the visit was to exchange best practices and engage in training focused on sustainable development and environmental education.
The training program included structured activities that showcased both the work of external organizations and our school's own initiatives. Accompanied by teachers Ms. M. Giannakopoulou and Ms. F. Kafetzopoulou, the participants visited ARCHELON, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece, where they learned more about environmental and biodiversity conservation initiatives. They also visited the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, a model of sustainable urban development and cultural innovation.
The contribution of WWF Greece was especially valuable. Ms. Svoronou and Ms. Koutava, through their inspiring presentations, analyzed practical methods and educational tools for utilizing the "Forest guards" project materials in the classroom.
Members of our school's English Department also shared exemplary teaching practices related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), demonstrating how English language instruction can promote interdisciplinary learning, environmental awareness, and global citizenship.
The visit concluded in a very positive atmosphere, leaving a lasting impression on all involved and strengthening the ties among schools and the broader European educational community.
