On Friday, December 16, 2022, the event “Tree of Life” was held in memory of John Angelicoussis and in honor of his family in the outdoor area of the Angelicousseio Gymnasium and Chandreion Athletic Center. The event was attended by members of the Angelicoussis family, as well as members of the School Administration and Direction, students and teachers.

Opening remarks were given by Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation Ms. Annika Papantoniou and Athens College President Professor Costas Synolakis ’75, who expressed their gratitude for the support that the Angelicoussis family has shown to the College throughout the years. On behalf of the family, Mr. Costas Panagopoulos, delivered a message for the day written by Maria Angelicoussis, daughter of J. Angelicoussis.

Students Sofia Dimopoulou (Athens College High School Grade 3 – a member of the Environmental Club), and Eleni Rodopoulou (IB2 – President of “A” Association) also spoke of this symbolic ceremony.

The tree planting and unveiling of a bronze honor plaque next to the tree followed, as well as the bestowal of commemorative gifts to the members of the Angelicoussis family by Ms. Papantoniou and Mr. Synolakis.

The remembrance event “Tree of Life” was organized by the Athens College Development Office and revived the Day of the Tree that was established by the College on December 19, 1929. It also marked the beginning of reconstruction efforts for the 5,000 trees planted on the Psychico campus.

The event was coordinated by Mary-Irene Triantafillou, Executive Director of Development.
