Why we are part of the effort! The «voices» of our volunteer alumni Class Agents.

The Alumni Fund Drive Coordination Team

"I was born in Constantinople and as a member of the minority I was raised in an environment where volunteerism, social contribution and solidarity was part of the everyday life. Having the above as a background I could not refuse my participation to the founding team of the Alumni Fund Drive, when proposed to me over 50 years ago. My continuous long-term participation to the Alumni Fund Drive is proof of the personal satisfaction and emotional reward that I enjoy when I know that our efforts have a positive impact to the continuation of the studies of a large number of students at our excellent School."

"I have been participating at the Alumni Fund Drive since 2006 along with Dimitri Vamvakopoulos '64. When I completed my studies and as I started paving my professional career I sought to find a way to reapproach the School in order to remit to the next generations what I was generously offered during my early educational years. Thus, I became even more familiar with the institution that makes our School special and unique. The same institution that for decades has allowed children without financial means to experience and receive the education that our School offers. I support the Alumni Fund Drive aiming to convey the message to my classmates and fellow alumni that Athens College was, is and will be a School which will offer all of its students the opportunity to excel and flourish in their adult life as well."

Class Agents’ Support

"Every Athens College graduate begins his or her adult life one step ahead armed with a multitude of strengths including but not limited to an excellent academic education, character shaping, personality development and a breadth of perception. Having personally benefited from all of the above, I became a Class Agent not only out of my love for our School but so that I could encourage my classmates to help families who face financial difficulties to send (or keep) their children to Athens College.
Asides from being able to contribute and give back to society in this small way, being a Class Agent enables me to continue being an active member of our large Athens College family which further strengthens my strong ties with both my old classmates and the School itself."

"My “family ties” with the Alumni Fund Drive begin with my father Platon Mousaios ’30, pioneer of the Alumni Fund Drive (1967). The idea of the Scholarship Fund belongs to Stefanos Delta, father of Athens College, as documented in a letter (el) to my father (1934) urging him for “a small but regular” contribution. His exhortation rooted in my father’s soul who dedicated his life to this purpose. I, of course, took the baton from my father and represent my class as Class Agent. This letter has been given to the School. Let us all, today’s Class Agents, give new breath to the vision of Stefanos Delta for a College open and accessible to all students irrespective of family income."

"We feel honored to have attended a School that has in its history and long tradition such an active Scholarship Program, which has helped so many students, making the unique College experience not the privilege of the few, but an accessible reality for so many Greek families. Without the Scholarship Program, our School, its graduates and its presence in Greek history and society would not have been the same. I believe that it is primarily our duty as alumni to strengthen the Program, in recognition of its indisputable value in maintaining the distinctive character of the College, and this is the main reason why I actively participate in AFD as a Class Agent and a member of Coordination Committee."

"I decided to voluntarily contribute by supporting the Scholarship Program following the financial crisis that I myself as a parent of two Athens College students experienced. I realized both the need of many of our students’ families and the sentiment of relief that they feel when they realize the support that our School has to offer in such difficult times. Our School is a family with strong ties, with a tradition of long-term giving that does not let any of its children be deprived of the College education and experience for financial reasons. Each year hundreds of students are supported by the Scholarship Program. Today, 1 in 5 students receives financial aid. This means that, if we have not needed this support ourselves, a friend of ours, a classmate who sat next to us or next to our children has definitely needed it."

AFD Mission Communication

"I decided to become a Class Agent, because Communication is a great aspect of my character and through my role, I keep in touch with the School and my classmates. Acting as a communications liaison between my classmates and the School, I contribute in maintaining a strong Alumni Community which makes Athens and Psychico College stand out. Moreover, as a member of an initiative with a social impact, I invest my efforts in something important, at a time when giving is more symbolic than ever. Hence, I feel the moral satisfaction in helping support the students and their families who face financial challenges and honor my School for the opportunities and experiences it has equipped me with."

"My participation in the Alumni Fund Drive as the Class Agent of my class and as a member of the Coordinating Committee is a great honor and pleasure, as it enables me to help advance the purpose of the Scholarship Program, a unique institution which on one hand provides the opportunity to students who, without it, would not be able to attend our School to partake and benefit from the unique educational experience it offers, on the other hand it ensures the inclusive character of the College."

Support to Reunions

"Why am I participating? In words, then, what has been flowing spontaneously for decades: Solidarity with underprivileged families who dream of their children graduating from the best school in Greece. Love for the School that has offered me countless skills and many opportunities. Love and giving back to the School that supported me as well. In support to the outstanding President and Advise of the Alumni Fund Drive. In support to our School’s mission and the lovely staff of the Development Office. But also because it is simply wonderful to be part of a common effort for a good cause."

"Like many alumni, the first years after graduation, I was distanced from the College. Gradually, however, during my professional and personal development, I realized the assets that our School had given us. Hence, in 2005, I agreed to contribute to an “attractive” concept, that of SAKA “e-agent”, for the promotion of the electronic communication among alumni (in the pre-Social Media era). In due course, I got familiar with the role of the Class Agent in support of the Scholarship Program and I got “stuck” 😊! The enthusiasm for our School keeps growing year after year!"

Giving Βack / Legacy Giving & Stories of Impact

"When I joined Athens College it was my first time far from home. I was a boarder, and the School dominated my daily life. Athens College effectively became my home away from home and the people an extension of my family. And while I complained about the school, about teachers, about anything under the sun as it were, a few years post-graduation I came to realize that Athens College was in fact my single, perennial, point of reference – a constant: people come and go but the College remains there for me. It is part of my identity, it is part of all our identities; my closest friends, alumni & teachers, are Athens College. As part of the AFD Coordination Team I remain actively involved with the School; it helps me feel that I am contributing to its well-being (be it ever so little) and I am rewarded by keeping my sense of belonging very much alive."

“Ι have been a part of the Fund Drive and giving in support of our School's Scholarship Program since my thirties. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But, steadily every year and always with great joy. This is the least I can give back to Athens College for everything it has offered me and my family. It is an honor to be a member of the Alumni Fund Drive Coordination Team and contribute so that more students have the privilege to live the Athens College experience.”

"The Class Agent is the person who, when the excitement of freedom and the new way of life after graduation subsides, will take care of our reconnection with the School and our classmates, in order to meet again with all these people who, today, make us smile and feel nice!"

Spyridon Marios Delitheos '16 (ΑC)

"The College's address to society as a whole is its decisive and historically acquired comparative advantage. The Alumni Fund Drive is the glue of that tradition with today's needs for more social osmosis and expansion. The giving back of each of us to the College community and our active contribution is not only a true satisfaction for giving in itself as an act, but also our essential contribution to ensure and strengthen the progressive identity of the School in terms of collaboration and innovation in an open society."

"'I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.' —Helen Keller. We are a group of alumni from different class years who have one goal: to mobilize all our classmates to participate at the Annual Fund in support of our School's Scholarship Program. A team based on the value of Contribution and Cooperation. Many thanks to the Development Office for inspiring and supporting us!"
