We are inviting you to support the Athens College Elementary School Student Community initiative to raise funds in order to equip the Ano Kalentini Elementary School in Arta in view of transforming the school into a Center for Lifelong Learning-Education and Culture, giving more opportunities for education to everyone.

The Student Community initiative is coordinated by teachers Maria Nomikou, Marianthi Giannakopoulou and Maria Karaggelou.

Ano Kalentini is located in the mountains of the prefecture of Arta and hosts an Elementary School with 13 students, a Middle School with 17 students and a High School with 10 students. The Ano Kalentini schools serves students from the surrounding villages (Agios Charalambos, Mesopyrgos, Elati, Milies Pigon, Agios Nikolaos Pigon, Megalochari, Zygos Dichomiriou, Chryselia, Astrochori, Tetrakomo, Tympas, Skoulikaria and Velentziko), where the schools have been shut down, and thus students are forced to commute on a daily basis.

Our students support students! 

The aim of this initiative is to equip the Ano Kalentini Elementary School with:

• Two interactive boards
• Five computers for the IT room
• Laboratory equipment (for Physics experiments)
• Tables and chairs for the school Library
• Artificial Intelligence Tools / Applications for education
• Educational material (Literary books in Greek and English, board games, pedagogical books for teachers)

In particular, the IT room will serve in connecting students and teachers of Elementary, Middle and High Schools with other schools, to participate in school networks and to attend educational programs, lectures, seminars and training.

This action is part of our School's broader systematic effort to support students in small and remote schools with the motto "No child far from knowledge, no matter how far away!", which aims at quality and equality in education and the improvement of the everyday lives of children around the world.

Our vision

Our School community vision is to raise our environmental awareness and take action towards the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on an annual basis. This year, we are taking on a special mission to serve Sustainable Development Goal 4 "Quality Education" through initiatives that help us increase our human footprint of solidarity and giving, in honor of our School's 100 years of volunteering and contribution to society as a whole.

Let's support the effort of our students!

The funds required to complete the project amount to approximately 5,000 euros. The funds raised will help our students cover the expenses of their initiative. The completion of the project is expected in May 2025. Through this effort, our students are also participating at the Annual Fund in support of our School's Scholarship Program as any surplus will be earmarked for Financial Aid to classmates and their families, as needed.
