Speech by Ioli Christopoulou '98 to High School students

On Monday, January 23, 2023, Ioli Christopoulou ’98, alumnus and co-founder of the Green Tank, spoke to Athens College and Psychico College High School students, within the framework of the “Students and Alumni discussions”, organized by the Direction of Welfare and Diversity in collaboration with the Communications Department.

She spoke to our students on her career path and answered all of their questions concerning international environmental policy and all that one can do for the protection of the environment.

About Ioli Christopoulou

She graduated from Athens College in 1998. She received a BA (Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa) in International Relations from Mount Holyoke College (MA, USA), and an MA from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University (MA, USA), focusing on public international law and organizations and international environmental policy and governance. At the same school, she completed her PhD, examining the role of the structural funds in the sustainable development of the EU.

In 2018, she co-founded the Green Tank, a non-profit environmental think tank, where she is Policy Director.

She has been appointed as one of the two NGO representatives in the national Nature Committee 2000, which reports to the Minister of Environment and Energy, and currently serves as its alternate chair.

Since 2008, she has also been teaching environmental courses at the College Year in Athens. She has served as a member of the Board of MEDASSET – The Mediterranean Association to Save the Sea Turtle, and is the coordinator of the Mount Holyoke alumni association of Greece.
