Jul 20, 2026
The International Biology Olympiad (IBO 2026) was held from July 12 to 18, 2026, in Vilnius, Lithuania, with top Biology students from across the world participating.

The Greek team was composed of four students, two of whom, Apostolos Vasilikos and Charilaos Michalopoulos, are Athens College High School 2026 graduates. The students were selected to represent our country after the 2026 Greek National Biology Contest, in which more than 3,000 High School students participated. The Contest is organized by the Panhellenic Bioscientists Association (PEV), under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports. The Greek delegation was accompanied by Leonidas Anthis, General Secretary of the PEV Board of Directors, and Dr. Georgios Kapolas, both of whom are Biology teachers.

Apostolos Vasilikos won a silver medal, marking a historic achievement, as this is only the second silver medal earned by Greece in all its participations in the International Biology Olympiad.

Charilaos Michalopoulos won a bronze medal, contributing to the Greek team's overall excellent performance.

This year's event marked Greece's best-ever performance in the International Biology Olympiad, reaffirming the high academic and scientific standards of Greek students.

Warm congratulations are due both to the two 2026 graduates on their great achievement and to the teachers who coached them with dedication and scientific rigor!
