Athens College Elementary School – English Department teachers participate in an international conference in Slovenia
On May 30, 2026, four teachers from our School participated in the international conference "From Idea to Action, How Kindergartens and Schools Create Sustainable Stories." The event was held at the Jože Gorjup Elementary School in Kostanjevica na Krki, under the auspices of the Ministry of the Interior and Public Administration of the Republic of Slovenia. There, they had the opportunity to present the European Erasmus+ program “Greening our Curriculum, Greening Our School,” in which our English Department is involved, to more than 300 educators from across Europe.
The conference was organized by the Slovenian organization DOVES, one of our two European partners in the program. During the conference, our School’s Assistant Director, F. Kafetzopoulou, together with Mr. G. Tsarsitalidis, representing our second partner, the Swedish school Granbyskolan in Uppsala, presented the e-book jointly created by the two schools. This collaborative project highlights best practices and innovative educational approaches for integrating sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the school curriculum through English language teaching. Next, the teachers from our School’s English Department—M. Kitsopoulou, A. Marazioti, and A. Rapti—presented lesson plans from the e-book, drawing on their pilot implementation in our classrooms.
The conference offered an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas, experiences, and effective practices that contribute to creating a “greener” and more sustainable school.
Our teachers’ participation and the e-book presentation were significant steps toward disseminating the results of the Erasmus+ program and strengthening the link between education, sustainability, and environmental awareness.
We continue to work toward a school that promotes the values of sustainability, responsibility, and active participation in shaping a better future.
