Athens College at the Panathenea International Innovation Festival
On Friday, May 29, 2026, our School participated in the event “Classroom Futures: AI Discussions & Ideas that Shape Learning", organized as part of Panathenea, an international innovation festival.
Students from Athens College engaged in a highly insightful discussion on the use of Artificial Intelligence in education with the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports, Ms. Sofia Zacharaki, and the founder of The Greek Online School and event organizer, Ms. Stella Bompotsiari.
Eleni Marinaki, a senior student in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, and Spyros Roupas, a High School Grade 2 student at Athens College, addressed the Minister with questions regarding the integration of AI into education. Among other topics, they explored the opportunities this emerging technology offers, the potential risks it poses, and the evolving purpose and goals of education in an era when AI is becoming increasingly powerful.
The discussion was followed by presentations from educators and technology experts, including Ms. Despoina Trivela, Informatics teacher and Head of our School's AI Center. In her presentation, Ms. Trivela highlighted the AI tools integrated into our School's educational practices, the technical support and pedagogical guidance provided to teachers, and the implementation of a Code of Conduct for the responsible use of AI by both teachers and students at the College.
She also referred to the ongoing professional development initiatives taking place at our School in this field, emphasizing the College’s important collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on the design of the Universal AI program—a pioneering online learning experience aimed at bringing the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence to millions of learners worldwide.
