As part of the Grade 1 Open Day, titled “Caring for the Environment… and for Each Other,” students welcomed their parents to school for a special day of learning, creativity, and collaboration.

In the natural setting of the school woods, they enthusiastically presented projects and activities carried out throughout the year, highlighting the importance of care, respect, and responsibility toward both nature and other humans.

Class 1a

The students of Class 1a presented a dramatization of Nikos Gatsos’s poem “The Nightmare of Persephone,” highlighting themes such as humanity’s relationship with nature. The event concluded with a symbolic tree-planting ceremony in the school woods.

Class 1b

The students of Class 1b presented a theatrical performance on the chessboard in the school woods, exploring the concept of happiness. They then created the Alphabet of Happiness and, together with their parents, took part in a symbolic “Hanging Out the Laundry of Happiness" activity.

Class 1c

The students of Class 1c studied the journey of swallows from Greece to Africa and researched information about swallows and blackbirds, two birds associated with the arrival of spring. On Open Day, they presented their projects and shared the swallows' journey through an improvised theatrical performance.

Class 1d

The students of Class 1d presented the process of sowing and growing plants in the School’s garden beds. At the end of the presentation, children and parents planted their own plants, which they took home in biodegradable pots suitable for replanting.

Class 1e

The students of Class 1e spoke to their parents about environmental protection and the importance of recycling. They performed a short skit and recited a poem about recycling in our School. At the end of the activity, they created crafts together with their parents using recyclable materials.

Class 1f

The students of Class 1f presented the projects they completed as part of the Out of Eden Learn educational program by Harvard’s Project Zero and carried out the program’s final project together with their parents.

Open Day concluded in an atmosphere of joy, collaboration, and creativity, leaving students, parents, and teachers with lasting memories and reinforcing the message that caring for the environment is a shared responsibility.
