Athens College Junior High School – Europe Day Celebration

May 13, 2026

To mark Europe Day on May 9, Athens College Junior High School organized an engaging event to inform students and raise their awareness of the values and significance of the European Union. Junior High School Grade 3 students Polytimi Zarampouka (c3), Eleanna Leventzoni (c5), Argyro Michelinaki (c6), Anny Skevi (c7), and Irene Haskou (c9) presented their research on the history and functioning of the European Union.

The event was honored by the presence and speeches of Ms. Konstantina Botsiou, Professor of Political History and International Relations in the Department of International and European Studies at the University of Piraeus and General Director at the Council on Foreign Relations (CfIR-GR), and Mr. Dimitris Fatouros, Communications Officer for Greece and Cyprus at the UN Regional Information Center in Brussels. The guests discussed European integration, EU-UN cooperation, and the contemporary challenges facing the European community.

The event was the culmination of a broader educational initiative that had taken place in Social and Political Education classes, during which the students explored topics related to Europe, European institutions, and the rights of European citizens. They also completed a related quiz testing their knowledge on the European Union. The students listened to the presentations with great interest, gaining valuable insights and food for thought regarding the future of Europe and the role of young citizens. The event was organized by the Department of History and Social Sciences at Athens College High School, specifically by Ms. Aimilia Stripeli and Mr. Athanasios Papatheodorou.
