Lecture by Alexis Komselis '92 on Family Businesses

Apr 30, 2026

The lecture “Family Businesses: Tradition and Innovation," featuring alumnus Alexis Komselis '92 as the speaker, took place with great success as part of the "Open Meetings: Presenting My Work" series organized by the College’s Lifelong Learning Programs.

Family businesses are a key pillar of the national and local economy. The complexity arising from the coexistence of family and business creates both opportunities and challenges in a rapidly changing business environment. At the same time, critical issues such as succession and governance require careful handling, while businesses are also called upon to address talent acquisition and retention, digital transformation, and the transition to sustainable practices.

During the presentation, participants had the opportunity to understand how a family business’s past can creatively engage with its future, maintaining tradition as a pillar of unity and innovation as a driving force for growth. The discussion focused on topics such as succession, responsible ownership and governance, the dual family–business strategy, and the decisive role of social and emotional capital.
