Event celebrating the Greek Language during Panigiri 2026

Apr 3, 2026

On Friday, March 27, an event celebrating the Greek language was held at the Choremi Theater, organized by our School’s Greek Language Committee in collaboration with the Student Communities, the Academic Departments, and the administrations of the Junior High Schools and High Schools of Athens College and Psychico College.

The event included:

A. Presentation of student activities held on World Greek Language Day at the Junior High and High Schools of Athens College and Psychico College. More specifically:

  • A video was screened, edited by Ms. Maria Venetaki, Head of the Greek Language Academic Department at Athens College High School. The video was shown on February 9 in all classes at Athens College High School.
  • The two teams that represented our School at the event “Student Marathon – Il Greco fa testo” (Greek is a legacy), held on February 9 in Naples at the iconic Basilica of San Giovanni Maggiore, delivered a presentation.

The students of Athens College Junior High School participated by presenting the project “My Homeland is my Language.” The supervising teachers were Ms. Paraskeyi Kostala and Ms. Eftychia Geronikolou.

Psychico College High School took part in the event, represented by a group of High School Grade 1 students who presented the project “Language: Greek,” centered on a poem of the same name that the students wrote specifically for the occasion. This team was prepared and guided by Ms. Elena Skaventzou and Ms. Sofia Delidaki.

  • An initiative by students of Psychico College Junior High School was mentioned. It involves creating a TikTok account in which students themselves select Greek poems to post. The initiative was led by Ms. Maria Konstantinou.
  • There was a presentation of the online meeting between the Student Communities of the College’s High Schools and the Greek schools in Egypt—the Ampeteios School of Cairo and the Averofio High School of Alexandria—which took place on February 9.
  • The “Emotions” Poetry Contest, organized by Psychico College High School on World Greek Language Day, was also briefly presented, and the winning student’s poem was read aloud.

B. Lecture by poet Antonis Fostieris on the topic “The Language of Poetry and the Poetry of Language,” followed by a discussion with students, who recited his poems.

C. Musical Program – Poetry Set to Music

Curated by: Mr. Stefanos Tsokakis, Interschool Head of Music

The event was presented by Danai Livanou, President of the 15-member Student Council of Athens College High School, and Eleni Marinaki, President of the 15-member Student Council of Psychico College High School.

Congratulations to all students who helped organize and present the event, recited poems, discussed poetry with our guest, performed—whether by singing or playing in the orchestra—and presented their projects. We thank the Teacher-Advisors who guided and supported our students’ outstanding presentations.
