The Student Communities of Athens College and Psychico College support the brave children of ELEPAP

Mar 20, 2026

A special event in honor of ELEPAP-Rehabilitation for the Disabled was held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, organized by the Student Communities of Athens College and Psychico College Junior High Schools and High Schools, in collaboration with the School’s Department of Social Welfare and Diversity. During the event, the students presented their fundraising initiative to support ELEPAP's brave children.

The event was honored by the presence of His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, and the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Affairs, as well as College alumna, Ms. Domna Michailidou ’05.

Archbishop Ieronymos warmly congratulated the students of the College on their meaningful efforts to support ELEPAP's work—efforts that directly impact the daily lives of other children facing challenges. He also commended the teachers and the College Administration, who instill moral values and shape responsible citizens committed to humanitarian ideals and the principles and values of Greek culture and Orthodoxy.

Minister Ms. Michailidou expressed her joy at returning to her alma mater and highlighted the importance of giving back. She emphasized that everyone can contribute from their own position to improving the lives of those in need, noting that students who offer set an example for others.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation, Mr. Alexis Phylactopoulos ’65, and the President of Athens College, Professor Spiros N. Pollalis, also addressed the audience on behalf of the College.

Mr. Phylactopoulos spoke about the admirable work of the College’s Student Communities, which continues the School’s longstanding tradition of social service. As he highlighted, the College has historically been deeply committed to service, particularly through its Scholarship Program, which each year provides financial support to hundreds of students for their education at the School.

President Mr. Pollalis referred to the structured activities of the College’s Student Community, which, since 1931, has developed into a well-organized model of student self-governance with consistent and meaningful outreach. He noted that this new initiative by the Student Communities reflects the School's ongoing efforts to fulfill its “Politas Trefon” (Nurturing Citizens) vision and nurture well-rounded individuals and responsible global citizens.

Danai Livanou, President of the 15-member Student Council, along with Dorianna Konidari—both High School Grade 3 students at Athens College—presented the initiative “Together We Join Forces and Support ELEPAP.” In recognition of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, Junior High School and High School students learned about ELEPAP’s work and responded enthusiastically. They created a poster promoting their initiative and crafted piggy banks to raise funds for the brave children of ELEPAP.

ELEPAP President Dr. Helen Skouteli described the organization's long-standing work as Greece’s oldest charitable institution providing rehabilitation services. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to the students of the College for their significant contribution, and encouraged them to continue giving, emphasizing that volunteering is a gift from the heart.

In the presence of the Co-Director of Athens College and Director of Athens College High School, Mr. Christos Konstantopoulos, and the Co-Director of Psychico College and Director of Psychico College High School, Mr. Panagiotis Giannoulatos, the presiding members of the Junior High School and High School 15-member Student Councils of Athens College and Psychico College, presented Ms. Skouteli with a check representing the funds raised for the children of ELEPAP.

Student Dorianna Konidari, who spearheaded the initiative, received an honorary plaque from ELEPAP President Ms. Helen N. Skouteli in recognition of her significant contribution to supporting ELEPAP’s mission.

The event was accompanied by musical performances by students and teachers of the School.
