Final Round of the Howland Oratory Competition at Athens College High School
On Monday, March 16, 2026, the final round of the Howland Oratory Competition for High School Grade 3 students took place at the Athens College Theater. Areti-Eyangelia Mayrogianni was named the winner of the “HOWLAND” Prize for the 2025–2026 school year.
The students competed by delivering speeches on the following theme:
"When, then, the school fosters in the student a desire for further learning and inspires a method for acquiring it, then it fulfills its purpose […] The method applied at Athens College stems from the idea that the student “is taught” not when knowledge is transmitted by the teacher as information that the student must draw upon, but when it is acquired by the student as a result of his own active thinking, for which the teacher aptly provides the impetus.”

“The adoption of Artificial Intelligence as a powerful tool alongside specialized educators can pave the way for a future where education becomes more accessible, more attractive, and more democratic. The education system must strive to strike a balance between harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence and preserving the human elements that are essential for the holistic development of skills.”
