Athens College Elementary School - Educational trip to Ancient Olympia, Grade 6
Elementary School Grade 6 students at Athens College participated in a unique experiential learning opportunity during their two-day educational trip to the sacred site of Ancient Olympia. A highlight of the visit was their overnight stay at the International Olympic Academy (IOA), where they experienced the atmosphere of a place dedicated to the global promotion of education and sports.
The trip was connected to the PYP transdisciplinary theme "How we express ourselves," focusing on how human values, beliefs, and ideals are expressed through history and culture. As they explored the archaeological site and museum, students engaged with the timeless messages of truce and fair play, reflecting on the importance of Olympism as a universal expression of unity.
Their stay at the International Olympic Academy added a special dimension to the experience. Students participated in activities that strengthened collaboration, communication, and social bonding in a highly symbolic environment. Beyond historical knowledge, the visit inspired them to embody the learner profile attributes of the "Thinker" and "Caring" citizen, helping them understand how values from the past can shape their attitudes and choices in the present.
