Athens College High School - High School Grade 2 student to represent Greece in the "Physics World Cup" (IYPT 2026)

Mar 11, 2026

Ilias Georgopoulos, a student in Athens College High School Grade 2, has been selected to join the National Physics Team, which will represent Greece in the finals of the International Young Physicists' Tournament (IYPT), to be held in Zurich, Switzerland, in July 2026 (https://www.iypt.org/basic-facts/).

The IYPT—widely known as the "World Cup of Physics"—is one of the most challenging and prestigious international physics competitions for secondary school students. Competitors engage in months-long research on open-ended physics problems, design and conduct experiments, analyze their results, and defend their findings through rigorous scientific discussions. During the tournament, students alternate among the roles of Reporter, Opponent, and Reviewer, presenting their research before an international jury of scientists.

This achievement was made possible through the support of our school's physics teacher, Mr. Xenophon Rafios, who guided the student throughout the preparation process and played a key role in his success.

The School Administration and the entire teaching staff warmly congratulate the student on this accomplishment and extend their best wishes for continued success at the final stage of the competition!
