Opening of the exhibition "Double Bond – Visual Arts Teachers at Athens College"

Mar 6, 2026

On Thursday, March 5, 2026, the exhibition "Double Bond – Visual Arts Teachers at Athens College" opened at the Choremi Theater. The exhibition is part of the celebration of the Athens College Centennial and will run through June. Twenty-four visual arts teachers from all school units of the College are participating with their works.

The guests were welcomed by the President of Athens College, Professor Spiros N. Polalis, who emphasized that the School places great importance on the artistic education of its students and has long had art teachers whose work extends beyond the School—and even beyond Greece. He noted that this exhibition allows teachers to step outside the boundaries of their classrooms, offering their students and the broader community the opportunity to get to know them as artists.

Ms. Viktoria Karvouni, Interschool Head of the College's Art Department, remarked that art teachers are called upon to balance the roles of artist-creator and artist-educator. This dual role, she noted, is deeply significant, requiring teachers to transform personal expression into a pedagogical act. As she highlighted, the exhibition honors a century of artistic education at Athens College and quietly renews the teachers' promise to keep the School's creative spirit alive.

The exhibition's curator, Mr. Theofilos Traboulis '85, spoke about the College's long artistic tradition, which reflects the important work taking place in the classrooms. He emphasized that the exhibition is addressed to the wider community and invites visitors to come to the School to see the meaningful work being done. He also noted the particular challenges of mounting an exhibition within a school environment. As he explained, the teachers' work was arranged to engage with students and capture the spirit of the School, without disrupting school life, while still upholding key standards for presenting the artists' ideas.

Following the speeches, Mr. Traboulis led a guided tour.

The exhibition features works by the following artists: Niki Bisylla, Dora Chartman, Eleni Damopoulou, Martha Dimitropoulou, Natalia Fragkathoula, Christiana Garofalidou '07, Eleni Grafakou, Maria Kahramanoglou '98, Viktoria Karvouni, Omiros Kosmidis '86, Vasiliki Koukou '14, Niovi Kritikou, Naya Magaliou, Dimitris Michalaros, Ioanna Michopoulou, Konstantinos Papamargaritis, Maria Papanastasiou, Magda Petmeza, Lia Petrou, Vasiliki Spyrou, Electra Stamboulou, Maria Tapini, Magdalini Vasila, Aygoustos Veinoglou '00.
