Athens College Elementary School – Earthworms: the Little Heroes of Composting
On Wednesday, February 4, 2026, the Environmental and Gardening Club held an engaging activity focused on earthworms and their important role in composting. The session was led by our School's agronomist, Panagiota Stoubou.
Students took part in hands-on soil observation activities, learned about the "green" and "brown" materials needed for effective composting, and observed earthworms up close. Through this experience, they discovered how these tiny organisms help break down organic matter, enrich the soil, and support a healthy ecosystem.
This activity strengthened the children's connection to the natural environment, highlighting the importance of sustainable organic waste management and the value of observation in school learning.
