Athens College Junior High School participates in the 10th Anniversary Panhellenic Student Simulation of the UN Committees "Students in the Role of Diplomats"
A team of 22 students from Athens College Junior High School participated in the 10th Anniversary Panhellenic Student Simulation of the UN Committees "Students in the Role of Diplomats", held in Thessaloniki from December 12 to 14, 2025. On December 12 and 13, at the hospitable facilities of the Apostolos Pavlos Schools, our students worked in the individual committees they had prepared in advance during special meetings with the simulation organizers, writing "position papers." The committees covered a wide range of human rights (for example: the right to physical and mental health, the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion, elimination of discrimination against women in employment, education, marriage, and family relations, combating violence against women, disability: independent living and integration into society—accessibility, prohibition of racial propaganda and hate speech). On the last day, December 14, at the Ioannis Vellidis Conference Center, all simulation participants attended the presentation of the committees' conclusions. Distinguished guests addressed the simulation participants (including Dimitris Kouvelas, representative of the Hellenic Parliament, Nikolaos Papaioannou, Deputy Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Alexandros Koptsis, Secretary General at the Ministry of Education, and Dimitri Fatouros, Communication Officer for Greece and Cyprus at the United Nations Regional Information Centre).
At the award ceremony, students Alexandros Misthos and Georgios-Michail Stamatelopoulos received honorable mentions for their contributions to the committees.
Our participation in this year's simulation (December 11-14, 2025) was combined with an educational program that included: visits to the Archaeological Museum of Pella and the Royal Tombs of Vergina, a tour of selected sights in the city of Thessaloniki, and participation in a program at the Science Center and Technology Museum-NOESIS.
