IB DP Arts visit to the Acropolis Museum
The Visual Arts students of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme visited the exhibition Michael Rakowitz & Ancient Cultures | Presentation of Ancient Civilizations and Contemporary Art on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
Curated by Professor Nikolaos Ch. Stampolidis, Director-General of the Acropolis Museum, and Ms. Elina Kountouri, Director of NEON, the exhibition offers an in-depth dialogue between contemporary works and ancient artifacts, highlighting enduring themes of cultural heritage, loss, restoration, survival, and the creation of culture.
Focusing on the multifaceted work of internationally acclaimed contemporary artist Michael Rakowitz, the exhibition presents contemporary artworks in creative conversation with objects from ancient civilizations of the Middle East and the southeastern Mediterranean.
Guided by experienced docents, the students toured the exhibition and gained meaningful insight into the world of art and curatorial practice, as required by their course of study.
The field trip was organised by the IB DP Visual Arts teachers, Mrs. V. Karvouni and Mrs. M. Papanastasiou.
