May 28, 2025

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, the 22nd "Athanasiadeia" Track and Field Meets of Athens College and Psychico College Elementary Schools took place in memory of Alexandros Athanasiadis.

As part of the celebration of the school's 100 years of athletic tradition, nearly 300 students from Athens College and Psychico College Elementary Grade 4 performed traditional Greek dances: "Mes stou Aigaiou ta nisia", a Syrtos from Leros, and "Eche geia Panagia", a Fast Hasapiko from Constantinople. The students wore costumes from 13 different regions of Greece: Vovousa, Desfina, Chania, Mani, Ioannina, Kefalonia, Roumlouki in Alexandria, Siatista, Florina, Kythnos, Samos, Metaxades, and Pelion.

The ceremonial program began with a lively performance by the student percussion band.

All participating students took part in the parade, which was honored by the presence of the Hellenic Police Band.

Following the flag-raising ceremony and the national anthem, Ms. Elli Filippopoulou '88, member of the Board of Directors and the Athletic Advisory Committee, delivered a historical overview of the Athanasiadeia and officially declared the games open.

At the Stadium entrance, there was a photo exhibition showcasing archival material from the College's track and field competitions from 1981 to the present day.

Two commemorative plaques were awarded to students from the Athens College and Psychico College Elementary Schools who set new records during the interschool track and field competitions.

A total of 236 students from Elementary School Grade 3 through Grade 6 participated in the events.
