ΙΒ DP Biology Higher Level students visit the Department of Physiology at the University of Athens Medical School.

Jan 9, 2024

A group of Year 2 Biology students from B DP recently visited the Department of Physiology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. During their visit, they were taken on a tour of the in-house museum which showcases the evolution of medical equipment. The students were amazed to see how medical education has evolved to use simulation on manikins as a training and feedback method. This allows learners to practice tasks and processes in lifelike circumstances. Clinical Simulation is a way to replicate real-world healthcare scenarios in a safe environment for educational and experimentation purposes. The Biology HL students had the opportunity to experience first-hand how medical students are taught and practice their healthcare skills in real-time on manikins. These manikins mimic human anatomy and physiology and are externally controlled by a computer. They are also capable of manifesting multiple real-life scenarios, including birthing simulation.
