Athens College High School Student Magazine "The Athenian" Meets Panagiotis Roilos (Harvard University)

Dec 22, 2023

In the context of the tribute that the Editorial Team of the Athens College High School Magazine "Athenian 2024" is preparing for the Greek Diaspora, members of the Editorial Team attended a very interesting lecture that took place at the SAKA Club on Tuesday, December 19, 2023. Mr. Panagiotis Roilos, Professor of Modern Greek Studies and Comparative Literature at Harvard University, spoke to the students and answered their questions about the course of Classical and Modern Greek Studies both in America and in Europe. He referred to cultural homogenization, spoke about the shrinking of Greek Studies today, and also discussed the emotional bond between Greeks in the United States and Greek Literature. In his informative speech, he elaborated on his vision of his goals regarding the Delphi European Cultural Center and presented the Center's Delphic Dialogues program.

Panagiotis Roilos holds the “George Seferis” Chair at Harvard University. In 2017, as a member of the Board of Directors of the European Cultural Center of Delphi, he started the annual educational program under the general title Delphi Academy of European Studies. In 2022, he succeeded Eleni Glykatzi-Arveler as President of the Board of Directors of the European Cultural Center of Delphi.

We would like to thank our distinguished speaker for his inspiring speech to the students of the Editorial Team of "The Athenian", as well as for the fruitful discussion that followed.
